Literacy Intervention
New Visions Charter High Schools have developed a network-wide literacy intervention program aligned to the Response to Intervention model in order to support readers through targeted, evidence-based literacy programs. These interventions seek to reduce literacy barriers and provide the support required to ensure literacy growth of all diverse readers.
This RTI triangle explains the breakdown of tiers - based on Lexiles and diagnostic assessments - and recommended literacy interventions for students in each tier.
Steps for Intervention Programming
Our Approach
Nationally Normed Assessments: Students are screened via Performance Series and provided a Lexile level. This Lexile determines if a diagnostic assessment - such as the WIST or DORA - is required to further understand one's reading abilities. Our testing process is outlined below:
Best practices and resources for administering Performance Series at your school are linked here.
Evidenced-Based Interventions: Diagnostic data will place a student into the appropriate tier 2 or tier 3 intervention. New Visions recommends the following interventions to support developing readers: Read 180, Just Words, Wilson, and System 44.
Fidelity of Implementation: The Special Education Intervention Specialist works closely with New Visions charter schools and teachers to support instruction.
